Today marks the one-year anniversary of Refuge Coffee Collaboration. Making this milestone is monumental on many levels. They overcame the slow winter months, where tourism slows to a trickle and money is better spent on heating your home, keeping the lights on, and meeting needs that we don't have during warmer weather. Making it through your first winter in Alaska is something every wild animal, transplant citizen, and seasoned Alaskan knows is a make-or-break milestone. If you can do it once, you will have greater confidence for the next round.
I was reminded of how loudly our internal voice can reverberate with lies, doubt, and discouragement when we need our strength and joy to carry us through to a finish line. FEAR IS A LIAR. That little self-doubting voice showed up for me this week while working to reach a goal. I wasn't the only one fighting for a goal. Refuge Coffee collaboration was nearing the end of its first year in business. This goal was especially important for those of us who support the mission of RCC and the non-profits it funds.
Refuge Coffee Collaboration supports Priceless Alaska's efforts. Priceless Alaska works to break the bonds of modern-day slavery. Human trafficking is a problem in every remote corner of the world. The best way to fight this war is to identify what human trafficking can look like outside of the expected, educate those who assist in the intervention of trafficking operations, educate parents and at-risk populations about trafficking, and support those who have been the victims of trafficking.
Priceless Alaska meets these needs by engaging with communities, churches, and other settings to reach hearts and equip them with the tools to counter traffickers. The victims can meet with mentors for recovery, healing, support, and to connect with resources.
Refuge Coffee Collaboration, in itself, is an environment that welcomes everyone, regardless of personal beliefs. It is a home for those needing a safe harbor, bright and inviting during the cold winter months, and Instagram-ready for anyone looking for a picturesque spot for photos, snacks, a mom's coffee break, and playdates for kiddos.
Donations to support Priceless Alaska can be made here.
