Bubbles copper necklace
Description
HANDMADE COPPER & ANTIQUE TRADE BEAD STATEMENT NECKLACE
One of a Kind | Handcrafted in Alaska
This one-of-a-kind statement necklace is hand-crafted from solid copper, meticulously cut, textured, and finished with an intentional verdigris patina. The surface is patterned with organic, bubble-like forms that echo water, weather, and time — elements that shape life along Alaska’s coasts.
Along the lower edge, antique turquoise trade beads sourced from the Pribilof Islands are individually suspended, creating soft movement and a rhythmic fringe. These historic beads carry generations of story and exchange, grounding the piece in both place and memory. Matching beads accent the chain, unifying the composition and framing the copper panel with balance and intention.
No two patinas are ever the same — this necklace celebrates imperfection, process, and the beauty that comes from controlled oxidation and handwork. It is a wearable artifact meant to be felt as much as seen.
THE MEANING OF COPPER IN NATIVE ALASKAN CULTURES
Copper has long held deep significance among Indigenous peoples of Alaska and the Northwest Coast. Traditionally associated with wealth, protection, power, and spiritual balance, copper was valued not only for its beauty but for its strength and ability to transform over time. It was used in tools, ceremonial objects, adornment, and trade — symbolizing both resilience and connection.
As copper ages, it changes, developing a living surface that reflects interaction with the elements. This transformation mirrors Indigenous values of adaptability, endurance, and respect for natural cycles. In this piece, the patina is not hidden — it is honored as part of the story.
