Sockeye Salmon Skin Bolo Tie

One of a Kind | Handmade in Alaska

This one-of-a-kind bolo tie features authentic sockeye salmon skin, carefully prepared and preserved to highlight its natural scale pattern and organic texture. The circular focal element showcases the distinctive markings of the salmon skin, celebrating the beauty of a material shaped by water, movement, and life along Alaska’s rivers and coasts.

The bolo is finished with a braided black leather cord and decorative metal tips, creating a strong contrast that allows the natural surface of the salmon skin to remain the centerpiece. Adjustable and balanced, this piece is designed to be both wearable and meaningful — a contemporary form rooted in tradition.

Salmon holds profound cultural importance across Alaska Native cultures. As a cornerstone of subsistence life, salmon represents nourishment, continuity, respect for the land and waters, and the responsibility of stewardship. Salmon skin has been traditionally used for clothing, tools, and adornment, valued for its strength and adaptability. In this piece, the skin is honored not as novelty, but as a living material carrying story, resilience, and connection to place.

Each salmon skin is unique, and no two pieces will ever be the same. Variations in texture and pattern are natural and embraced as part of the work.
